NEW for the IDEXX VetLab® Station!
Now you can store SNAP® results electronically for an all-inclusive printout with software version 2.20
The new software version 2.20 will allow you to transform many of your record-keeping
workflows and seamlessly integrate your SNAP results into the same
database and printout as your VetLab diagnostic information.
For the first time, you can store your SNAP results electronically, generate
a complete and inclusive patient report and automatically upload your SNAP
test results into your practice management system for proper billing and
incorporation into your electronic medical records.
| To use this new capability: |
 |
- Select the ANALYZE SAMPLE button
on the HOME screen of your IDEXX
VetLab Station.
|
- Type the appropriate patient and
client information, then select NEXT.
|
- Select the desired SNAP device(s)
on the bottom of the screen, then
press RUN.
|
- On the HOME screen, tap the SNAP icon that is labeled with the patient’s name. When you are ready, start the SNAP timer and snap the device. When the timer reaches zero, a SNAP TIMER COMPLETED message appears. By pressing the Enter Results Now button on that message, you can enter the results of the test.
|
- To enter the results, select the
appropriate image/test results
that correspond to your visual
measurement.
|
- Press OK to save your results and
return to the previous screen.

The IDEXX VetLab® Station results printout has a new look—and it's going to give you a better look at your patients.
We've changed the order of the results and added additional information so you can easily identify abnormalities.
What are the changes?
A new column shows the patient’s
most recent prior results for easy comparison.
The primary chemistries for each
organ are grouped together.
Hematology results now have the
major components—RBCs, WBCs
and platelets—grouped together,
with additional subgroupings to help
you rapidly characterize specific
changes.

How do the changes help you?
Easy comparison of results over
time on a single printout helps you
recognize subtle abnormalities,
allowing you to diagnose diseases
at earlier stages.
Grouping multiple tests associated
with organ systems together
also makes it easier to identify
abnormalities that might otherwise
be overlooked.
The organized, easy-to-read
printout makes it easier to explain
trends in patients’ results with
your clients.
For more information about the new printout, call your IDEXX representative or call IDEXX at 1-800-355-2896.

Invest in your practice!
Fritz Wood, CPA, CFP, references The Art of Veterinary Practice
Management by Mark Opperman, CVPM, which states that practitioners
fail to bill clients an average of $40,000 a year for services rendered.
Typically, laboratory test requisitions and billing systems are two
separate entities that require an individual to manually transfer
information from the instrument printout into the client's invoice.
Wood notes that when your practice management system is coupled
with your in-house laboratory directly, far fewer charges are missed.
"This represents a significant chunk of money," he adds.

Meet Anestes Fotiades
Usability Architect
Anestes has worked at IDEXX for
nearly five years. He began as an
information architect for the Web
team, and over the past two years
has shifted toward helping the
product development teams with
user interface design and usability.
During May 2006, he became IDEXX’s
usability architect for the product
development teams.
Anestes came to IDEXX from an IT
consulting firm. He applied at IDEXX
because being part of an internal
team meant he could consistently
focus on the needs of a single
customer and stay involved in a
set of projects over the long term.
Anestes considers his primary goal at
IDEXX as improving the usability of
IDEXX’s products for its customers.
“IDEXX is unique in that it brings
such a wide range of innovative
products to the veterinary market.
With our extensive research and
development teams, we can build
an integrated set of tools that help
doctors and technicians practice
better medicine and do so more
efficiently. The IDEXX VetLab® Station
Laboratory Information Management
System is naturally a critical part of
this integration. Of course, the better
the end user’s experience with our
products, the more confidence and
trust we build—that’s why usability is
so important,” Anestes explains.
Anestes lives in Portland and loves it.
“Portland has it all—sea, mountains,
city and country, as well as great
food and a thriving art community.”
His hobbies include reading, cooking
and cycling.

IDEXX VetLab® UA™ reporting gets a boost
The IDEXX VetLab Station now has the capability of capturing urinalysis
information when connected to the IDEXX VetLab UA Analyzer. The integration
of the VetLab UA allows for the automatic integration of the IDEXX UA strip
results into your IDEXX VetLab Station and onto your patient results printouts.
By capturing all the urinalysis information, you can:
Incorporate it into the electronic medical record without manual
data entry.
Get the urinalysis results incorporated into the same printout as the
rest of your VetLab results.
Transmit the information to your practice management system.

COMING SOON... IDEXX VetLab® Station/Cornerstone® Complete Circuit Connection—it's a revolution in information management!
Completely revolutionize your workflow and data management by
enabling the Complete Circuit SmartLink™ Connection between
the IDEXX VetLab Station and the IDEXX Cornerstone practice
management system. The new Complete Circuit SmartLink
Connection allows the automatic transfer of in-house blood work
requests directly to the IDEXX VetLab Station, where they will appear
in a sample queue. The patient results will then automatically
upload to Cornerstone when completed.
Here's how it works:
Set up a laboratory requisition for a patient as you
normally would in Cornerstone. The patient information
will automatically appear on the IDEXX VetLab Station.
Select the patient you want to run by highlighting
the patient name in the Sample Queue and pressing Run
on the IDEXX VetLab Station Home Screen.
Select the IDEXX VetLab analyzers or SNAP tests you want
to use and run the tests.
When the tests are complete, the results are automatically
transferred to Cornerstone and are incorporated into your
electronic medical records.
This connection incorporates IDEXX SmartLink technology,
increasing laboratory efficiency by eliminating the need to re-enter
patient information into the IDEXX VetLab Station after initiating a
laboratory requisition from Cornerstone. The Complete Circuit
Connection virtually eliminates orphan results.
In addition, you will improve practice revenue by eliminating unbilled
laboratory work through the automatic transfer of data to client invoices.
For more information about how you can take advantage of this new technology, contact your IDEXX Computer Services sale representative at 1-800-283-8386
